Spiritual Truth and Spiritual Guidance
All spiritual truth for Today is found in the Living Word of the Living God. Some have found difficulties reconciling the Old and New Testaments, stating that the Old Testament dealt with life under the law, while the New Testament deals with life under grace. But, Scripture 'cannot be broken'. Thus, grace was demonstrated in the Garden of Eden, by God, when He Himself took it upon Himself to cover up the nakedness of Adam and Eve, covering them with animal skins, animals whose blood was shed for them, which pointed to the culmination of grace and truth in Jesus Christ's shed blood, death and resurrection. And Jesus IS the Life 'truth and grace'.
Thus, the underlying spiritual truths in the Old Testament are revealed through the Person of Jesus Christ Himself, in the New Testament. Truth is truth; no variation, no shifts; eternally past, present and future; All in All for Today. Jesus prefaced the teaching of the Kingdom of God and the spiritual truths about His kingdom, with "Verily, verily, I say unto you" (KJV) or "I tell you the truth" (NIV). There is only One truth-teller in the Universe.
When we were saved, we were ‘united’ with God. However, most of us, at that time, did not have an inner knowing of the spiritual truth of Galations 2:20. We 'saw', for perhaps the most part, that the Old and New Testament stories demonstrated to us how God dealt with humanity; however, we viewed these stories in the past tense. The Old and New Testament stories were 'history' that had its beginning and end there. And in a way, to be sure, they did; in the temporal realm. These things happened. They are true.
But HIS STORY continues Today. When the Holy Spirit reveals to us, the truth of the Life on the other side of Cross in the Person of Jesus Christ Himself, who 'dwells in us', as us, another realization comes to light.
Each and every episode, drama, story in the Word of God, is played out again and again, in the generations upon generations of people. They are 'eternal' stories, because they demonstrate 'eternal' truth. They are HIS STORY. The world even has a temporal 'proverb' demonstrating this, "History repeats itself". And of course, HIS STORY is always repeating itself, in each successive generation. God is calling out from among the world, in each generation, a people for Himself. And that is really Good News for humanity.
Now, if these stories are repeatable in the sense of their eternal truths they display, they provide the solid security of demonstrating to us that for every question, problem, situation, there is an 'eternal story' to provide us with guidance in our everyday life situations.
The Best is still to come. Not only there is an eternal story, but the Person about whom these stories were written, the Word Himself, lives in us to explain to us, through His Spirit, the eternal truth of these stories, in having them being played out in our unique, individual lives, here on earth.
Jesus, in John 14 describes this. "On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you". "Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him". The Person and Author of the commandments is in us and shows Himself to us by faith through His Spirit. Later on, Jesus says "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you ALL things and will remind you of everything I have said to you".
This is really great news. Every situation, difficulty or problem we encounter, Christ Himself teaches us ALL the 'spiritual truths' that are being played out in those particular situations, difficulties and problems and He Himself 'reminds us', through His Spirit, who speaks to us, of everything He has said in His Word. He is the Word, and His Word never returns to Him void and accomplishes what it sets out to do – His Father’s Will for us, the Father’s “perfect and pleasing will.
We have the mind of Christ – and His mind – the living embodiment of all truth and all wisdom teaches us and we “… understand what is right, just and fair – every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul”. (Proverbs 2:9-10).
The Solver has already solved the problem and reveals to us His Way of living out the solution, Him as us. He reveals the answer, we receive the answer and we live it out to His Glory.
