It's True, but . . .
by Cris Norris

John 6:28-29 Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires? Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

What is required? Very short, very simple answer and this is a direct answer from God to a direct question. For some reason this is just amazing to me. I can hear people I know, saying “Yes that’s true but, you also need to go to Church and be on the committee and organize these events, and make sure your kids are there, and pray this prayer, and give your money (or you won’t be blessed), and really get on board with our movement, and have the church Christmas party at your house. All of these things are great, however as soon as they take the place of God, as soon as you groan with disgust, because you seem to be busting your butt and everyone else is standing around doing nothing and you are angry—I think maybe they have lost their meaning.

I have administrators in my life (not just my wife) that constantly tell me where, how and when I will do things that are required. I find the strictest is the Church, they tell me what is required of me to have God's favor. They have lists of things to do for the congregation and then when we volunteer for something outside the Church they tell us to get our priorities straight and to put God first. Who are they to tell me I didn’t put God first when I coached the Jr. NBA basketball team? Is that not serving God?

Faith! Is not faith trusting that God will get all things done that need to get done? Trust that He will provide and that He will do what He needs to do.

This actually makes our jobs very easy, does it not? Just believe and leave it at that, stop trying to add to perfect scripture.
